Frequently Asked Questions

  • Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes, such as something you’d be comfortable working out in. If your pain or injury is in the lower body, you may need to bring or wear shorts.

  • If you are a new patient, plan on bringing your insurance card and your driver’s license.

  • Sometimes, and it depends on the case. Often a doctor will refer a patient back to PT; our thought is to cut out the doctor’s visit and come see us directly. PT can often help patients avoid surgery by improving strength and motion as well as pain relief. We have the ability to check for the need for surgery— and if surgery IS needed, pre-surgery PT also has the ability to improve function prior to surgery, which improves outcomes. Questions? Give us a call at 620-909-5043 or come by and chat with K.J. or Warren. We love helping new patients!

  • If you’ve experienced the same pain for six months or longer, it’s chronic pain. Even if you’ve already seen other doctors or physical therapists, don’t give up. We get a charge out of figuring out what WILL HELP YOU— and we believe we can improve your situation. At Wilkens PT, your recovery is our mission. To schedule or simply ask questions, contact us and speak with K.J. or Warren. We look forward to helping you!

  • Many of our patients suffer from unnecessary back pain with a variety of causes: years of manual labor; sitting on a tractor for long hours on end; long chunks of time hunched over a computer; pregnancy and childbirth; and now even kids who spend time looking down at a phone or tablet. We can:
Help with increased tightness, correct poor mechanics, fix tilted posture, get muscles firing at the right time, alleviate the pain you’re feeling, and allow you to live the life you want to! Give us a call, message or come by our office in Scott City.

  • Some people may think physical therapy is a workout program and they’re scared of it. We will find something you can handle; our goal is to get you out of pain. We won’t give you something you can’t handle. We will tailor it to you and progress from there. We tailor each and every program to our patients as individuals. There are no cookie-cutter approaches, because each person will respond differently to different treatments. Questions about if PT can help you? Give us a call at 620-909-5043.

  • Yes! It can be extremely beneficial to do therapy before surgery. For example, you have a knee surgery coming up (joint problem), but the muscles around your knee are extremely tight. Working to strengthen the muscles, increase the range of motion and get things stretched out will make your recovery on the back end that much easier. It’s not an easy fix, and it will take work; but pre-surgery PT can optimize the outcome of surgery and post-surgery recovery.

This isn’t necessarily the case for every person, and it depends on the surgeon and the person. (Stop by and talk to us if you have questions!) Questions about your upcoming surgery or post-surgery recovery? We’d love to help. Stop by our office at 1420 Main St. or give us a call at 620-909-5043!

  • We can typically get you in for an evaluation in 1-2 days. Once you're evaluated, you'll see YOUR physical therapist at every appointment, leading to a consistent path of therapy! For most problems, getting started quickly on treatment means a quicker and easier recovery. Waiting longer can turn an acute problem into a chronic problem. You DO have a choice where you go for physical therapy... ask your healthcare provider about Wilkens PT! Self-referrals encouraged!

  • Ask them about Wilkens PT! You can choose where you go for physical therapy.

Ask your doc for a hand-written or printed referral, instead of having them send it. Then you can carry it in to where you want to go. Or, if they DO send the referral, ask them to send it to Wilkens PT.

There's a good chance that if you're referred to go somewhere else for therapy, your surgeon may just not know we are here!

We appreciate every one of our patients! Call us at (620) 909-5043.

  • No. In many states, including Kansas, you can see a physical therapist without a referral from a physician or other healthcare provider! This is called “Direct Access.” This means if you have pain or an injury, you can go directly to a physical therapist to get the care you need (saving you time and money). This can help you get back to your normal activities faster! We consider PT to be a value-packed service and we aim to go above and beyond for our patients!

SERVICES AND TREATMENTS

  • General Physical Therapy

    General Physical Therapy

You don’t have to live in pain, and there are options other than drugs and surgery. We’d like to flip healthcare on its head and get patients to consider therapy first, before jumping to drugs or surgery.

  • Dry Needling

    Dry Needling

Dry needling uses a needle in muscles with electrical stimulation to decrease pain, muscle spasms and muscle tightness. We have seen positive results with dry needling in most patients, many reporting decreased pain, improved range of motion and improved function.

  • Athletic Performance

    Athletic Performance

Athletic Performance sessions are available for athletes looking to improve their strength, coordination and athletic performance. What we’ll work on: movement skills, range of motion, strength and power, stabilization, plyometric activities, quickness drills, jumping, single leg activities, lifting and power movements. We will tailor each program to the your athlete’s specific goals.

  • Post Surgical

    Pre and Post Surgical

Pre-surgical and post-surgical PT is not an easy fix, and it will take work; but both can really optimize the outcome of the surgery and the post-surgery recovery. If you know you have surgery coming up, it can be extremely beneficial to do therapy before surgery.
